Montana Solitaire

A grid of 52. Slide cards into rank order. No tableau, just space.

Montana removes the four Aces from the deck and leaves you with a 4×13 grid of gaps to fill in suit-rank order. A purely spatial puzzle - no foundations, no waste, just rearrangement.

How to play

  1. Remove all four Aces. Deal the remaining 48 cards into a 4×13 grid.
  2. Each row holds one suit, ordered 2 → King, left to right.
  3. A card may move into a gap only if the card to its left is the same suit and one rank lower (or the gap is in the leftmost column, then any 2).
  4. When stuck, gather all cards out of position and redeal them around fixed cards. Two redeals.

Strategy & tips

  • Build complete rows from the left - premature mid-row gains often lock the board.
  • A 2 in the leftmost slot is gold - it unlocks the entire row.
  • On a redeal, the cards in correct position stay; plan to keep as many as possible.
